Many parents are distressed about the amount of time their children spend on the computer, cell phone, and other electronic media. They are concerned about what their children post online and what they are exposed to in regard to violence, pornography, etc.
This presentation is geared to parents, teachers and concerned members of our community. It will discuss the generational gap between what has been dubbed as "Digital Natives" (the young ones) and "Digital Immigrants" (older adults and parents). It will help parents learn about the digital world of their children, their attraction to Facebook, Twitter and texting, and will propose ideas in regard to the “do’s” and “don’ts” of effective parenting of the digitally savvy child. The guidelines to parents are aimed to reduce conflict and tension and increase harmony and collaboration in the home around digital issues.
Ofer Zur, PhD, is a consultant, licensed psychologist, writer, forensic consultant and lecturer from Sonoma, CA. He is a pioneer in the development of the ethical and effective psychotherapy practice. Dr. Zur taught for many years at several Bay Area and CA graduate schools and has trained thousands of psychotherapists in seminars, lectures and private consultations.
His recent focus has been on the psychology of the web and how modern digital technologies are effecting our families, homes, relationships, school, work-place and society at large. Dr. Zur offers over 130 online courses, including courses on Internet Addiction and the Digital Divide at http://www.zurinstitute.com .
